WHAT IS HEALTH?

Definition of Health according to World Health Organization is- "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". What we need to understand from this definition is that -Absence of disease is not equal to health and one also needs to consider emotional, mental and social aspects of a human being when we talk about health. Even though this definition was given in 1948, the world until now has been rigidly focused on the physical aspect of health. It has done its best to ignore, deny, resist, avoid looking at other components of health like- Mental Emotional Spiritual Financial Social Environmental Occupational etc. Health is a state of complete wellbeing that requires us to nurture & nourish all aspects of a human being.

WHAT IS HEALING?

Healing is the process of regaining your balance and becoming healthy again.The word healing literally means to become whole or to be one with that is whole. In Hindi- Apna santulan wapas pane aur swasth hone ki prakriya.

WHAT DOES 'HOLISTIC' MEAN?

The word 'Holistic' means considering & interacting with whole rather than separation into parts. Having a holistic approach means, to have an all encompassing view of the whole system based on the knowledge of properties and functions of its components, their interactions with each other and their relationship with the whole. In the field of health and healing, holistic refers to considering the human being as a whole person and not just a physical body.  So, what does a whole human being comprise of ? Whole Human Being = Body + Mind + Soul

WHAT IS HOLISTIC HEALING?

Holistic healing is a way of life! It is an approach which considers the human being as a whole while dealing with any issue. The aim of holistic healing is to restore balance & well being at all levels in a person’s life ie. physical, emotional , mental , energy, spiritual, relationships, work, finances, social. It addresses the cause of issues/ dis-ease at all levels- physical as well as metaphysical (beyond the physical).

It aims at nurturing an nourishing all dimensions of human existence- Physical mental emotional spiritual social financial environmental etc. Holistic Health considers all the causes: physical, metaphysical & beyond, that are contributing to creation of disease/ issues in a person's life & body. It incorporates different treatment modalities & healing techniques to realign a person with his /her core energies and the universal consciousness to create a harmonious living. MODERN MEDICINE & HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE : COMPARISION

Modern medicine at present is primarily focused on fighting disease and is reluctant to look beyond the physical body for cause of illness. Although it has a very important role in removing disease but its reach is limited as far as creating health is concerned. There are various fundamental differences between modern medicine and holistic health care in how they view & deal with issues. In Holistic Health Care the patient takes on responsibility of his own health & works in collaboration with the therapist to bring about required changes in his inner & outer environment that will promote health & healing. The therapist acts as a guide & supports him. In modern medicine the responsibility to get well is solely on the doctor & medicine, person just has to follow the instructions. Modern medicine is only focused on the physical body- it tirelessly searches for causes of disease within the physical body & its treatment measures are also limited to the physical body. Holistic Health care explores the causes of disease at all levels- Mind-body-soul and incorporates various treatment strategies to create well being holistically. Despite the differences, both have their own unique roles in Health.
